All Christians Are Missionaries

Anyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ and a Christian is taking on the responsibilities and the duties given to all those who are part of the body of Christ.  All disciples of Jesus are called to make more disciples of Jesus and to teach the world everything that is in the scriptures for God's ultimate glory.  This is known as The Great Commission.  Although Jesus has commissioned all his followers to be missionaries; that doesn't make all his missionaries willing and effective.  Do you see your local community, work, family, friends, and everything you live around as your mission field?

The Great Commission.
"Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”..."He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:7-8
The Commission given to the followers of Jesus Christ is simply this:
  1. Go
  2. Make Disciples
  3. Baptize them
  4. Teach them
  5. Obey Jesus' teachings
  6. Will be spiritually empowered
  7. Will be a witness of Jesus
  8. Locally, Nationally, and Internationally
Go:

To "go", Jesus is commanding his followers to move! Get up and actively do something on his behalf.  This is not in words alone but in action.

Make Disciples:

Followers of Christ are commanded to "make" more followers of Christ.  They "go" with the mission of making more disciples.

Baptize Them:

As followers of Christ "go" and "make disciples" they teach them inwardly and outwardly the truths of Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.  The Baptism is the symbolic physical and emotional transformation from death to life in Christ and the cleansing of their sins.  Notice it is done in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.  The Trinity is an essential part of a baptism ceremony.

Teach Them:

Followers of Jesus are commanded to teach other disciples.  Everyone is instructed to obey EVERYTHING Jesus has commanded.  Jesus is God, and scripture is God's Word; therefore followers of Jesus are commanded to teach and obey everything in scripture.  This includes the controversial issues that are counter cultural.

Will Be Spiritually Empowered:

Followers of Jesus Christ can not do this task on their own will by their own effort; they have to be and will be empowered by The Holy Spirit in their mission work.  Followers of Jesus Go and Make because they are lead and empowered by God himself.

Will Be A Witness:

They will see first hand lives change and spiritual events happen as The Holy Spirit works through them and empowering them to do what they are commissioned to do.   They will witness the power of The Gospel and the power of Jesus Christ.

Locally, Nationally, and Internationally:

They are commissioned to go all over the world.  They are called to impact their local community.  They are called to impact nationally and internationally.  Where ever you are, where ever you move to, and where ever you travel to; that is your ordained mission field.

What is Expected:

Because God himself has commanded, commissioned, and empowered his followers the results are guaranteed.  If you see your life as a missionary and where you live as your mission field then take action in faith to go and make disciples; God will be glorified and more of his disciples will be made by him through you.

Questions You Should Ask Yourself:
  1. Do you look for opportunities to tell someone the gospel?
  2. Are you currently or seeking someone to disciple?
  3. Do you get involved in your community through volunteer work or other opportunities to meet and influence your community for Christ?
  4. Do you help, support, or lead bible studies?
  5. After asking yourself these 4 questions; are you being an effective missionary?
