Christians that are 'too christian'

I have heard people called this, by other Christians.  That someone is "too churchy" or "too biblie" or "too Christian".  They are usually labeled this when they make something, a discussion, or a situation that is not in a religious context; about God.  They are accused negatively of making things in life about God, too often.  But that brings up a couple very important questions:

1.  Can a Christian, by making everything in life about God, be a bad thing?  That leads us to ask are Christians commanded to making everything about God?

2.  Is too much God wrong or is too little God wrong?  The reverse can also be asked; Is too much God right or too little God right?  Because they both can not be true.

3.  Is there a discussion, topic, situation, or thing in life where God should not be brought up?  Is there an area of life where we should leave God out?

Before we even try and answer this question with our own personal opinions, ideas, and defensive passions; lets first and foremost consider what the God of the universe and our personal Lord and Savior says about these 3 questions above.  Notice that I am starting off with God's view and not mine.  Why?  Because as Christians, our very purpose and Christian existence is to please the Lord and obey him.  Therefore; we must seek his guidance and will when trying to answer very important questions in this life.  At this point, if you think that this is being "too churchy",  "too biblie" or "too Christian", you already have a problem with your heart and relationship with God.  I suggest you do some soul searching and ask a Christian to explain The Gospel to you.  If seeking his will and guidance is of the highest priority for you and to you; then you are in a good spot and we can continue.
  1. Matthew 22:37: Jesus replied, "'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.'
  2. Psalms 3:6: Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
  3. Psalms 105:4  Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.
  4. Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
  5. Ephesians 5:20  And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  6. 1 Thessalonians 5:18  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
With everything in you, your soul, heart, and mind; everything you do in every way in every circumstance he commands us to continually seek him above all else.

So looking at question 3; there is not a single aspect of life where God should be left out.  Leaving God out is being disobedient and unloving to Him. Period.  He said it, not me.

Now turning to question 1;  Making everything in life about God is what we are commanded to do, by God himself.  To tell someone not to is to say that God is wrong for asking this and live a life disobedient to him.

Finally, looking at question 2;  Because God requires our whole being and whole lives to be about him; therefore it can not be wrong and can only be right that we make our whole being and whole life and everything we do and say, think and discuss, about Him.

This brings up another critical question:

4.  Are people who claim to be Christian and condemn other believers as "too churchy" or "too biblie" or "too Christian" loving and obeying God?

The simple answer is, no.  They are out right disobedient toward God, hypocritically judging their brothers and sisters in Christ as they teach things that are contrary to what God has said and unloving to Him.  This is not an opinion of mine.

At the worst, they are not saved and this is their fruit, disobedience and unloving to God's word.  At the least, they are convicted by their own backsliding, disobedience, and sins so they try and silence other obedient, God loving Christians.  Either way, they are in the wrong in God's eyes according to his own words.  They are disobedient to God's simple straight forward commands.  They aren't loving to other Christians and God.

Encouragement:

When you boast about Christ Jesus, The Cross, and everything God has done, is doing, and will do in every part of your life; you are living in obedience to Him.  Your love for God spills out in all aspects of your life.  Your love for God exposes other peoples lack of love for God.  Your obedience exposes other peoples disobedience.  It is your focus on the Lord in everyway that causes the sinful hearts of others to come out.  As the fruit of your spirit is Love and Obedience; the fruit of other people is made known as well.

Please read the quick study below.

MATTHEW 7:15-23;  The Tree and Its Fruit

15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.21 Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name. 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

Please pay attention to the fruit you produce.  Are you obedient and loving to the God and his laws and commands?  If not, I pray the Holy Spirit convicts you and turns you to The Lord.  That you come to KNOW the Lord personally so you can be obedient and love his commands and love and encourage those who do.  Just as Matthew 7 points out, just because someone says things in Jesus' name, doesn't mean they really know him.  Repent and believe Christ Jesus; love and obey God.

If you are obedient to the Lord and love his commands; do not let ANYONE discourage you as you always are thinking about, and talking about The Lord in everything you do; with everything in you.  Don't let those who are vicious wolves, even if they don't know they are, stop you from producing the fruit of the spirit of obedience and love for God's commands that He finds eternally pleasing.
