Rioting Christians?

This issue takes a real level of pure honesty to see clearly.  By establishing biblical truths we can be correctly guided into a correct and godly understanding and decision making.   Rioting and violence because of oppression is revenge.  So the question now comes to:

Should Christians support and take part in Riots because of injustices?

First God makes it very clear that HE is the one and only one righteous enough and just to seek revenge (Deuteronomy 32:35).  We are not righteous and we are not just in our revenge, God is (Nahum 1:2).  Paul even says "never avenge" but to leave it up to God (Romans 12:19).  The Lord is the just judge, not man and their riots and violence (Hebrews 10:30).  David prays for the Lord to get revenge instead of doing it himself (1 Samuel 24:12; Psalm 94:1).

The Lord has used man directly to be the interments of his wrath but if you notice, the Lord spoke to a prophet directly and clearly (Numbers 31:1-2).  And this was out of the Lords just judgment and divine vengeance and not from man.  Man is commanded to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44).

Even if you believe rioting is wrong but justify it by saying that good will come from it; Paul as a message just for you:  "Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just!" Romans 3:7-8.  To think that way and to even try and justify sin is terrible and wrong.

Therefore any vengeance, violence, and rioting because of oppression and any injustice done by man is sin.  It is disobedience to the Lord.  Anyone supporting and encouraging the vengeance and rioting is taking part in their brother's sin and the disobedience to the Lord.  God's people should not even want to be with rioters or encourage riots (1 Cor 14:33; Proverbs 3:31; Prov 16:32; 15:18).

What is the True Christian Response?
  • Love your enemies
  • Pray for those who persecute you
  • Pray that God brings Justice
  • Encourage other Believers to Love and Pray and not riot
  • Remain obedient to the Lord and faithful to His Justice in His time.
